Greetings All,
Well its great to get some waves for the start of the month, and holding the contest on the first Saturday was a nice change. With the bomby feathering and some good sized sets rolling in Huey turned it on for us. 74 surfers turned up for what has to be one of the coldest contest's during the year and with the sun shining and an off shore wind you could almost think it was summer.
The surfing was first class yet again, with the 14's and 18's leading the way to one of the best heats I have seen this year. Tappy catching a bomb left executing a hack or two, and then setting himself up for great little barrel only to be blown out of the water by Jack Joy getting a smoker on the right, this had to of been one of the deepest sand pits of all time, slotting in through the back door and to come screaming out the front and not getting his hair wet, to then rip the rest of the wave to bits scored tens all round from the judges. If only it were on film.
It was good to see a huge mob hang around for the finals, the wind turned a little on shore and the swell had dropped a little, but this only made the finals that much more enjoyable to watch, conditions a little testing, waves not so consistent made for every wave to count, and the winners were absolute stand outs making the most of was put to them.

The committee apologizes for not having the BBQ up and running, unfortunately the last BBQ caught fire and is still simmering away inside the trailer. We are looking for a new BBQ at the moment and we want one that will last longer than three contests. There WILL be a BBQ for the next contest.
The September Tag Team is next on the agenda and is one not to be missed, for those new to the club it works something like this, teams are made up from each division A B 18 14 women Jnr women and not forgetting the over 45's into a team of 5 surfers, 4 teams to a heat, heats last an hour. You think the bulldogs supporters get worked up, be at Queenie on the first Saturday of September and be apart of something special. This is a family event and we encourage all to be there, we will be raffling a Custom EyeSurf Surfboard and tickets can be bought during the day. There will be a presentation held after the event at the Manly Wharf Bar with Trophies to the winners, the draw of the surfboard. Mums and dads are welcome so bring the 14's and 18's along for the prezzo, food and soft drinks are provided for the groms, and the beers are cold for dad, and there is a chardy or 2 for mum. This Contest is also the 3rd contest on the calendar for the Over 45's, boys the results from this one go toward your end of year points so dont miss it. It will also give you guys the opportunity to let the grubs know how it was done in the days of single and twin fins, and yes those were the days.
The Club would like to welcome Eyesurf Surfboards as a sponsor, Yabbs has kindly donated a bunch of boards for prizes and is also offering club members a great price on custom boards. Custom Eyesurf Boards for club members only will cost you $495, now you can order them through Yabs on 0410557565. If you dont know Yabbs just ask some one from the committee and they will point him out.
The 21st of November, the club is having a contest for the under 18's of QBC, that means all of the gromms, the jnr girls and the under 14's are invited to surf in this contest, anyone else who would like to compete must be able to prove that they are under 18. Dont worry Vo we will get you a dodgey birth certificate from somewhere.
Dont forget about the Prezzo at the Wharf Bar after the tag event it means a lot to the club to have a big turn out so lets make this a big one. The club is also throwing a few bob on the bar for the members.
Congratulations also to Blake Levett he made the finals of the Dripping Wet contest on the weekend at Freshie. Well done Blake.
Cheers

Well what a couple of months it has been for both surf and weather, swell today gone tomorrow, rain today rain tomorrow....? And that's exactly what it did on our postponed June club contest. What a day with more than 55mils of rain pouring down in the space of 6 hours smack bang in the middle of our contest. With the waves improving it was a reluctant but determined Brad Harro that made the call to push on for a result much to the dismay of a few others. In the end it was a hard day with more than a few quoting that it was the toughest day on the QBC contest calendar ever.. I would have to agree, but none the less, it was enjoyable for the tight bunch who stuck it out under the tent in the driving horizontal rain. Thanks a bunch to the committee and the likes of sprinkler, Ricardo, and the ever help full Courtney for doing the bulk of the judging.
The July contest also moved into the second weekend due to lacklustre conditions on the 1st Saturday.. And what a call it was with the following Saturday producing some of the best surfing we have seen all year. With near perfect 2-3ft offshore easterly swell pumping in it was hard not to find the barrel. A few of the fellas managed to get tucked right in there but It must be said that the most vocal person criticising the call not to run the comp the previous week ended up getting the best barrell on contest day... No names mentioned here VO.
The conditions only got better during the day and numerous scores in the excellent range were posted in every division. Standouts on the day were the twin bell boys Tyler and Blaise making the under 14's final, but not managing to get over the top of the super consistent Bryce, Emily in the girls, Meggy's surfing through out the whole day and missing the final, Gardy making his 1st B grade final, Rats power gouging, Stu Blake bustin fins, Hedgy 1st final and victory in Bgrade, the dual between Courtney and Bronte, and the mouth watering battle that is eventuating between Benny sprinkler Hamilton and newly crowned NSW state O'28's champion Ricardo. This battle has been on for the past 2 years and is a highlight not only on contest day but a highlight for our club in general...When these 2 guys are in the final or surfing against one another it's only waves in the excellent range that are surfed.. fantastic stuff... great to see, keep it coming.
In the end the results looked something like this
A grade B grade U'18's
Ricardo hedgy Stu b
sprinkler rat Mitch f
Dan k Gardy Spencer
U'14's girls women
Bryce Emily Bronte
Tyler Paris Courtney
blais Simone
Once again thanks to the very help full committee of Ticks, Grant, Bezza, Hannos for looking after and picking up and bringing the Virgin Active Trailer to every contest and of course Brad for running a very smooth contest.
And another mention to Courtney for doing her bit AGAIN and Bronte for doing a heap of judging. Well done girls, great effort.
Just a reminder that when ever any over 18's are drinking down the Wharf Bar, use your QBC card and drink only COOPERS. It not only is good for you but is good for the club with 50c of every beer going straight back into our club. All of this money will be put on the bar at our annual presentation night on the 21st November. All you have to do is order a COOPERS, hand over your card and cash and the staff will swipe it to redeem our cash, very simple, and all the staff know what its for.
Till next time, see ya in the water.

Greetings Gumbies
Well another bumper Club Contest, with Huey making sure we had some waves and perfect conditions, the Adam Baker Memorial Contest was a belter. The Committee was hoping to run the contest with just the one bank but it just wasn't to be. When we have 44 plus Jnr's to surf and judge it sure makes for a longer day so double banking is a must, other wise QBC will be an all weekender with A grade surfing there final at 5pm Sunday arvo.
With the conditions the way they where, the surfing was exceptional, Tom Lane must have surfed a 1000 waves, the kid only got out of the water to change singlets. He won both the A Grade and U18's Finals,Congratulations Tom, super effort that. The fathers club of B grade is also doing pretty well with little sleep, Marvo and Bruno's wives are obviously letting there boys rest up the night before a big contest, with both blokes making back to back finals with the Vo winning both. Bryce in the U14's had better have a look over his shoulder at the next contest, with Ben P and Blake C these kids a frothing to give Bryce some heat, and some school yard banter. In the Womens, Bronte won her first for the season, which will make the tallying that much harder at the end of the year, with 4 out of the 5 women having won one each. And what go's for the snr women go's for the jnr women's, Lauren just edging out Tori and Millie in a thriller.
The 45's proved that just cause there older doesn't mean they cant cut it Eymesy had to bring it all out to keep Simmo at bay, Simmo was at his spectacular best but still could not breach Eymesy's fault less maneuvers.
A grade 1.Tom Lane 2.Nick Riley 3.Ryan
B grade 1.Marvo 2. Leon 3.Bruno
U18 1.Tom Lane 2.Mitch F 3.Bryce M
U14 1.Bryce M 2.Ben Pride 3.Blake Curl
Snr W 1.Bronte 2.Courtney 3. Sue
Jnr W 1.Lauren 2.Tori .3 Millie
45's 1 Eymesy 2.Simmo 3. Greg Bradey
It's great to see a mob hanging back to watch all the finals and having a couple of cold beverages, we really need some loud speaker commentary, as funny as it would be its probably better that we dont.
A big thank you must go out to Brookvale Cellars, Jim Beam and Coopers for the QBC afternoon Prezzo's.
Also dont forget about your membership cards, 50 cents from every Coopers sold at the Wharf Bar go's back to QBC and you can use your card whenever your down at the Wharf. You get Corporate rates at Virgin Active Health Club and 20% off at Australian Surfer HQ.
The next contest is the 13th of June, normal cut off times U18 BEFORE 7.30am everyone else BEFORE 8.am If your late and there is not a spot your out, so get there EARLY and help set up and help out.
Cheers
