Newsletter 10.2.07
Welcome to the new QBC website and the first newsletter for 2007. As you can see the new website is not only modern, its also packed with new features including member profiles and photos from our monthly contests. A lot has happened since the November 2006 newsletter was written, including weddings, injuries, a thing called Christmas, the demise of the NSW Waratahs and a bit of surfing here and there. So lets get you up to speed on the goings on of Australia’s finest boardriders club, QBC.
On Saturday 10th February the Holiday Cup was held in a straight 2-3ft swell that got the better of a couple of competitors and their equipment, with 3 boards being broken during the day. 90 competitors took part in the day that equated to over 11 hours of heats, semi’s and finals being surfed, a long day for all involved.
The A-Grade final was won by the ever-young Rob Bain who was never headed by his younger rivals. Rob turned 40 some time back but still knows his way around a surfboard and a breaking wave better than most. Tim Manion made a successful return from A-Grade winning the B-Grade final from Meggsy and Jake Elliot. Tim is one of the only surfers to have made the step up to A-Grade after winning the B-Grade pointscore some time back, but after a few years of being a first round casualty in A-Grade Tim has demoted himself back to where he feels more comfortable.
Other winners were Gordo in a now Marvo free O/35’s, The Drake in U/18’s, Mitch Forsyth in U/14’s and Sue in the Women’s. For the first time QBC is now running a Junior Women’s division, and congratulations must go to Eliza who won the inaugural event in this division.
