Newsletter 11.8.07
Well, it’s been almost two months since a newsletter has been posted on this site but we are back. So lets quickly get you up to date with what’s been going on within Australia’s finest boardriding club. Cougar won moustache night, Meggsy and Tappys cars got keyed while they were out surfing, Meggsys phone and wallet got stolen form his fiancé’s car a week later in the same parking spot and Wisey has developed a rare form of migraine called ‘Lote’.
Enough about the past, moving on to the future and its congratulations to QBC stalwart Bruno Cavalieri and wife Katrina on the birth of their first child Sienna Joan, born at Manly Hospital on 17th August weighing 8.5 pounds. Mother and daughter are both doing well. Bruno is having a few weeks off from the Manly Council garbage run he does five mornings a week, but will still be up to his elbows in soiled nappies while Sienna settles into the family home at Allambie.
The next event on the QBC Calender is the Rob Bain Tag Team Day to be held on Saturday 8th September. Registration cut-off for all competitors is 8am. The Tag Team day gives all competitors a great chance at winning, as history shows that the best surfers don’t necessarily always excel under this format. Team work and time management are the key to competing well in this event. All competitors from all grades will be evenly placed in teams of 5, and will compete under the Surftag format. The following is a brief outline of the rules: -
- Each heat is 60 minutes
- Each team consists of 5 surfers
- Each surfer must catch 3 waves before returning to shore to tag the next surfer. Each wave is scored and counts towards the teams total
- Each surfers 2nd wave is a Power wave, and is doubled (scored out of 20)
- If all 5 surfers catch their 3 waves within an hour and return to shore, bonus points are awarded.
- At the end of the 60 minutes all waves (maximum 15) surfed by each team member are added together to establish the winning team
The first hour-long heat is scheduled to hit the water at 8.30am so please bring your board and wetsuit to the beach when checking in. Another batch of QBC limited edition ‘hoodies’ have been printed and will be for sale during the day for $30. All competitors are encouraged to bring their families and friends down for what will be a fun and entertaining day. The BBQ will be sizzling with sausages, the esky will be full of cold refreshments and a custom made Warner surfboard will be raffled off.
The Tag Team day will be followed by a get together of current and past QBC members at the Civic Club, starting at 7.30pm. The night is being billed as a QBC Reunion, and my sources tell me that the enigma of club surfing throughout the 1980’s, QBC life member Robert Ironside, may be making a guest appearance. All past and non-members are encouraged to join the club, with a special membership offer of $50 available, which will provide membership until the end of 2008.
See you in the water,
Brad.
