Newsletter 3.11.07
Welcome to the last newsletter for 2007. Finally after a couple of months of no swell we were blessed with clean 2-3ft waves for our double point score November contest. 60 competitors took to the water in 7 divisions on what was a miserable rainy day. With double points on offer and being the last point score comp of the year allot was at stake to gain maximum points on your close rivals.
In 'B' grade it was all on line between the consistent Cooper and tireless Tim, but after the 1st round loss of these two it left the door wide open for Steve bewlly to creep up the ladder, all will be revealed come presentation night...On the day it was great to see lifeguard of the day Jake sumo come thru for his maiden 'B'grade victory ahead of birthday boy 'wave-rat' and Steve b rounding out the podium. Much the same scenario was played out in the over 35's between TM gordo Bruno and the consistent spuddo. with spudo winning 3 of his 4 events and placing 2ND for his 4Th result, winning the double point-score contest was never going to be enough, needing 7 results to count for the end of year presentation. So at the end of the year spuddo wins 5 contests and a 2ND and still does not manage a podium finish, bad luck, second on the day was TM followed by Simmo.
Sue levett daughter tori and son Blake all won their divisions of women junior women, and under 18's in what must be a first in the club, Courtney followed sue and Eliza and Zoe followed tori in the junior women.A fast improving Blake looked at ease in taking out the hotly contested under 18's division from Stu Blake and Alex bewlly. this division is fast becoming as interesting as 'A' grade with a host of surfers really having worked on their surfing this year.well done fellas. The under 14's was pretty much a one sided affair in the final with Mitch forsyth posting a 9 point ride in the opening minutes followed by a 6 straight after, but these kids are all ways at it and young harry Hayes and Hayden bowra were chomping at the bit to get their hands on the $40 on offer for the win, in the end 16points was just too much to claw back and harry and Hayden both filled the minor placings.
'A' grade was the most contested division on the day and with the likes of SAM page, jack joy,Ben Hamilton Jesse and danga it was certainly very interesting to watch each heat. In the end it was a (nervous according to his old man) Sam page who paddled down the beach and snuck out 2 high scoring rights to nail the final and welcome himself back from major injury with a win in his first REAL comp this year.nick 'danga' butler was only a couple of points off Sam in second with Ben Hamilton claiming 3rd.
