Newsletter 1.3.08
Over the past 2 months unfortunately we have had some difficulty posting the Newsletter but all should be fixed now. Our last contest being the Holiday Cup and having over 60 competitors was held in 2 to 3 feet south east wind swept waves. With the new BBQ taking over 2 hours and 10 men to assemble it was worth the wait with Gregor cooking up a storm of both bacon and eggs and sausage sambos to get the day started!

In the Under 14’s it was great to see a second generation QBCer come through for his maiden victory and the smile on young Bryce (Egor) Martiskan face when congratulated by Shun Yamamoto with a $20 note and $20’s from QBC was something he will never forget!

In Second Place was last year’s Under 14 champion Mitch Forsyth with Hayden Bowra in Third place.

In the Women & Junior Women’s division, it was a clean sweep for the second month in a row for Bronte Barham. Bronte already has clearly given herself a great platform for both of these titles come the end of the year.
In Junior Women’s Tori Levett placed second behind Bronte and in the Women’s division Sue placed second with Courtney third.

Another stand-out on the day was the surfing of Dan (Greenboard) Karren placing both first in Under 18’s and third in A-Grade. Dan’s surfing sure has come together in the past 12 months in particular since his return from Hawaii.

In A-Grade and where most of Shun’s money goes to, it was great to see new member Ricardo come through for his maiden victory and taking home $200 cash from the Holiday Surf Company. Rounding out A-Grade was Jesse Lowe, Dan K and Harro.

We once again thank Shun and Shiro from Holiday Surf Japan for their ongoing sponsorship of QBC.

On another sponsorship note, it’s sensational to see that Mark Eymes from Australian Surfer HQ has come up with an initiative for getting members to assist the Committee on contest day by providing 4 x $50 vouchers being handed out at days end to the people who have assisted the most. Last months contest saw Gregor doing a great job on the BBQ, Tori helping the contest sector, Sue judging all day and Courtney taking memberships each walking away with $50 vouchers. This is a monthly award so it would be great to see some different faces each month.

Congratulations to our Surf-Tag team on making the final at Narrabeen, although it didn’t go to plan, it was a great team effort and it was great to see such a young side all pulling together.

Also, congratulations to Sam Page on his remarkable comeback to the WQS circuit in placing 9th in his first hit-out since the accident one year ago…who would have thought?

Look forward to seeing you all in the water,
Cav.
